“There is nothing more beautiful than someone who goes out of their way to make life beautiful for others.” ― Mandy Hale, The Single Woman: Life, Love, and a Dash of Sass
Every year, Kaima Designs hosts charity fashion shows to fundraise for Canadian charities as well as its girl-child education initiative. In 2020, we set a goal to provide 1,000 school uniforms through the annual fashion show. Unfortunately, Covid-19 struck, and the needs of the beneficiaries became more urgent.
At the dawn of 2021, we prioritized our goals and set out to embrace new opportunities. And the outcome? Our Cheta Hoodie - a fusion of style, simplicity and social responsibility which was created not only to support the empowerment of Canadians living with disabilities but also to support the education of young girls in West Africa.
Cheta hoodie design is a culturally significant outfit which was inspired by a South African beaded skirt. The design reminds us that we are all unique individuals but infinitely connected in some ways irrespective of our race, gender, ethnicity, and socio-economic status. Our fate and destinies are interwoven within the universe. The Cheta tribal design symbolizes strength in diversity and love for humanity and the environment.
On Wednesday, 10th of March 2021, we received a letter from FEMDEV, a non-profit in Cote d'Ivoire and was prompted to intensify our campaign for the 1,000 school uniforms project through the Cheta Hoodie. The letter was from one of the three organizations and institutions expecting school uniforms for the 2021/2022 academic year. With the support of our clients and donations from partners such as LModels Canada, we have raised funding for 125 uniforms.
The campaign was scheduled to end on August 31st, 2021. However, due to the number of uniforms required to meet the minimum target, we reached a decision to extend the campaign to September 30th, 2021. As we round off the project, we humbly request that you support this noble campaign.
Additionally, we expanded our Cheta product line to include Cheta unisex t-shirts and Cheta ladies t-shirts for the benefit of our clients and campaign supporters looking for tops they can wear year-round. It’s important to reiterate that ‘Cheta’ means ‘remember’ in eastern Nigeria. As such, Cheta hoodies and tees are considered keepsakes to help you remember that you are a BIG part of a cause that is transforming lives every day.
A school uniform costs $15 CAD (including transfer fees). If you’d like to make a donation to help us reach our goal faster, please click this PayPal link or visit our campaign page to explore other options.
As you embark on your back-to-school shopping for yourself or your family, we urge you to support Kaima Designs' school uniform campaign today. Together we can make a difference in the world by fulfilling the dreams of young girls, one uniform at a time.
Thank you for supporting our campaign! Watch us on CTV news.
